ANCIENT ETHIOPIA AND CHRISTIANITY

The great Sabaen Queen, known to the world as the Queen of Sheba, bore King Solomon a son, whom almost every Ethiopian today knows as Menelik, the founder of the dynasty that ended with Haile Selassie, the last Emperor of Ethiopia (for different accounts of this legend see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_Sheba).

Christianity in Ethiopia dates back to the 1st century AD when the New Testament records that Philip converted an Ethiopian official to Christianity, but it became the state religion only after King Ezana of the ancient kingdom of Aksum (Axum today) converted to Christianity in the 4th century AD.

Today 45 out of the total population of  100 million Ethiopians are Orthodox Christians (for details see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_Ethiopia).
